Why Do Two Become One?
06/2016 visual culture
It’s an age-old cliché: overpowered by burgeoning love, the two individuals in a couple become a harmonious whole. Photographer Hal has taken to photographing couples vacuum-packed together for a brief moment as means to explore the strength of a bond of two becoming one. After sealing each couple in plastic while resting in a place personally important to them, the photographer had mere seconds to capture an image before his sitters ran out of oxygen. As such, each photo in the series is a sentimental and intimate memento of the moment during which the couple was temporarily inseperable.
